The personal differences and conflicts are forgotten at the sound of the final bell
Boxing the most noble of sports – after rigorous training and fierce competition, the protagonists respect their adversary and expect all participants to return to their homes, their families and healthy loved ones.
The scoop of sport is basic – hit without being hit. At the end of a fight, putting victories and defeats aside, in boxing all its protagonists are true warriors, not only of the shed, they are true fighters of life. On the bench sits the modern Gladiator waiting for the bell that initiates the action- between words, swish of water and ice, the boxer tries to process what happened in the previous jump and what he has to do the next three minutes. But despite the blows, the punishment to which they have been subjected, there is always mutual respect- The final bell rings and the boxers become entangled in a celebratory embrace. The battle ends, but it does not define war, because the struggle of life continues.
Unlike other sports, boxing is rarely discipline of academia … the most typical scenario is the shed as a refuge from the social inclemencies that affect our youth – poverty, lack of options, abandonment, truncated dreams – is as well as the gymnasium is the place where the youth find consolation, support, direction and examples to follow and this is where bonds of loyalty and honor between gladiators are forged.
My job is to offer fans and sports fans a window into the complex web of Fist’s art. Each evening is different, each fight is unique despite having the same protagonists. Although this is my career, and my journalistic work is to inform the public, the truth is that each commitment brings me new life lessons. I will use this Blog to share with you what I learn from my noble warriors and their battles of the shed and life.
